To date The Cake Sale has raised over €200,000/£140,000 for Oxfam Ireland's work.
The funds raised from The Cake Sale have been distributed equally between Oxfam Ireland's Make Trade Fair campaign and its overseas development work. The Make Trade Fair campaign is about working with the public and other organisations to demand trade justice so that trade can be part of the solution to poverty - not part of the problem.
The Cake Sale has also been supporting Oxfam's livelihood projects in places like Malawi, and its emergency work in conflict countries such as Darfur as well as work with HIV & AIDS.
One of Oxfam's partners in Tanzania, the Tanga Aids Working Group is an amazing example of where the funds raised have helped to combat overt poverty and illness in some of the poorest places in the world. Its work with local people includes HIV and AIDS counselling, testing and awareness raising as well as providing access to medicines - both traditional remedies from ancient herbal traditions and anti-retroviral drugs - and volunteers who care for those suffering from the disease in their own homes.
